Professional Experience
Rachel K.X. Murakami is from Honolulu, Hawaii. She graduated from Moanalua High School. She earned her B.S. in Business Management from St. John’s University in Queens, New York. While at St. John's University, she participated in an Executive In-Residence Program, which is an honors business consulting course where she presented proposed business solutions to the CEOs of GEICO, Synchrony Bank, Mazars Accounting, and Special Citizens. She then went on to earn her J.D. from William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. While in law school, Rachel served as a Research Assistant to Professor Andrea Freeman.
After graduating from law school, Rachel served as a law clerk for the Honorable Catherine H. Remigio, Circuit Court Judge of the First Circuit. While clerking for Judge Remigio, Rachel participated in various felony jury trials.
Prior to joining Ota & Hara, Rachel was a Deputy Public Defender where she effectively represented hundreds of clients charged with traffic matters, misdemeanor matters, criminal family court matters, and appellate matters in district and circuit court. Rachel has significant experience in successfully representing clients in both jury and non-jury trials.
Rachel is licensed to practice before all courts in the State of Hawaii and the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii.
